Spence & Grant

Established 1978

Our Company History

Spence & Grant was first started in 1978 by two local boys and within five years become a Limited Company.  Our Company is still based at the original site but over the years has grown from what once was an air raid shelter to the luxurious office block and substantial workshop premises that it is today and is an ideal and welcoming surrounding to discuss all your building and joinery requirements.

We pride ourselves at Spence & Grant that we offer a friendly and versatile service to all our customers and will undertake any kind of work involved with the building trade, large or small, private or commercial. From stripping down a door and fitting locks, to loft conversions, extensions and complete house build packages. Spence and Grant means reliable service and whatever your project we take equal care and attention to every contract  to make sure each and every customer is happy and satisfied with their final product.

We have over the years designed various developments in the area, including our  first project of 52 homes at Urquhart,  which was named Beils Brae by the local school children. Beils Brae was started in 1984 and built across two stages of development till it’s completion around 2002.

From that first project in Urquhart we carried out various further developments all over the Moray area including Kingston, five luxury homes at Scotstonhill, Jockies Loan Development at Garmouth, Rosebrae at Longmorn and various sites at the Highfield Development site in Buckie. These developments showed us the joy in designing and building beautiful homes for the local people, many of whom have gone on to be loyal clients and friends over the years.

We have a substantial workshop facility where all your joinery projects are made and overseen by our very talented workshop foreman Alan.  Alan has been with the company for over 30 years and with his experienced knowledge can take our clients ideas and make them a reality.  From manufacturing staircases, doors, windows and the normal construction products to bookcases, trophy cabinets, fireplace surrounds even the smallest of products like monitor stands or packing cases.  He puts his ideas and enthusiasm to ever project he is given.

We also pride ourselves on our on-site service and our fantastic team of Journeymen and apprentices that strive to make our company one of the top companies in the area. On receiving a contract we agree that service is one of the essential elements to a successful project and our clients are assigned a team  who will oversee their complete project from start to finish.  We believe giving our clients their own team of tradesmen will give them the confidence that everything will be carried out to their specification.

We have a jobbing joiner handyman service, which we believe is second to none.  Our head jobbing joiner, Andy, has over twenty years of experience.  He takes pride in every job whether it is just changing a lock, repairing a drawer or replacing your windows or door. We can also carry out a speedy emergency service if required.  For all your handyman works give us a call.

Around fifteen years ago Graeme Morrison purchased the company when Edward Grant and Ian Spence decided to retire.  Graeme with his wife Shona have strived to make Spence & Grant a company you can rely on for all your trade needs. As of 2015 Graeme has himself now retired and passed the Company into their son Steven’s expert hands.  Steven who has been a working joiner for over 20 years joined the office team a couple of years ago. Steven will continue to provide the firm with expert workmanship and customer service from our team of tradesman.

So for all your future projects call the Company who strive to serve the community around Moray.
